Bush Includes Biodiesel in his Alternative Fuels Strategy
President Bush called for an enhanced Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) that would include biodiesel and other alternative fuels to help make America more energy independent. In his State of the Union speech, the President said: "It's in our vital interest to diversify America's energy supply," and included in his strategy a call to "...expand the use of clean diesel vehicles and biodiesel fuel." Bush went on to say "Achieving these ambitious goals will dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil."
The President asked Congress to join him in pursuing the goal of reducing U.S. gasoline usage by 20 percent in the next ten years - or "Twenty In Ten." Both sides of the aisle stood and applauded.
