Volkswagen “Racing Under Green” Documentary to Feature Series’ Use of Biodiesel Blends-- Jetta TDI Cup Race Series Chronicled on Discovery Communications’ Networks in January
After a highly successful adrenaline-packed season of racing with the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series, Volkswagen announced that all of the behind-the-scenes drama of the country’s only professional clean diesel racing series will hit national television with a documentary on the season, titled “Racing Under Green.”
The 60-minute documentary takes an inside look at all of the elements that make the series unique. During the season, a broadcast crew followed the series’ 25 drivers and key leadership on track and off to capture the personalities behind the wheel of the equally-prepared Jetta TDI Cup racecars.
The documentary explores the environmentally-friendly aspects of the series. The series was run entirely on biodiesel blends, from HYPERFUELS’ Syndiesel® B5 biodiesel blend powering the racecars, to blends up to B20 powering the race team transport trucks and generators. In all, more than 33,760 pounds of carbon were offset by the series’ use of biodiesel blends this season.

Biodiesel CO2 Credits Could Become a Valuable Trading Commodity for Fleets
The carbon credit trading system is up and running in the U.S. Currently, carbon credits are trading on a “voluntary market.” The U.S. is considering a cap and trade market where carbon emissions are limited or “capped” for industries and companies. Even in a voluntary market, many companies are gearing up for buying and selling carbon credits either to make up for a short fall in carbon reduction or to make money from carbon reduction measures. Biodiesel is one of the tools used to cut down on carbon or more specifically, carbon dioxide (CO2) and therefore develop credits for trade.
